Alok Nath Jha or our dear Sanskari Babuji is a very dedicated actor who has not only played his Sanskari characters in TV serials, but also worked in a number of movies. Despite having the Sanskari image, he played the lead role in the romantic movie Kamagni in 1987.


Alok Nath was born on July 10, 1956 in Khagaria, Bihar. He belongs to a doctor’s family. His father was a doctor who had a wish as a common father to see his son as a doctor. But destiny led Alok Nath to a different path and he decided to become an actor. He has kept the media away from his family. He never revealed much information about his parents. He has a sister Vinita Malik, who is an actress too.

Alok Nath spent his childhood in Delhi. He was a student of the National School of Drama. He studied at Modern High School at Barakmabha road and completed graduation from the Hindu College. He married Ashu Singh in 1987. The couple has two children, a son Shivang Nath and a daughter Junhai Nath.

Despite having such image in the media, his life also have a grey area. Alok Nath was in relationship with the actress Neena Gupta. She was a kind of woman that anyone could get attracted to. They met in 1980 when they were shooting for a TV serial. But the relationship did not work for long and they moved to separate directions.

Career  Journey

Alok Nath studied at National School of Drama. He participated in many dramas with group Ruchika during his college days. He also directed many dramas for Modern School and Jesus Mary. Alok Nath made his debut with the film Gandhi in 1982 in which he played the character of Tyeb Mohammad. Alok Nath has worked in lots of movies and TV serials as a traditional and cultural elder member of a family. There is a long list of his famous movies.

Some of them are Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aap ke Hain Koun, Hum Sath-Sath Hain, Vivah, Pardesh, Taal, etc. But his career skyrocketed after playing the character of Haveli Ram in TV show Buniyad in 1987. Even though he was twenty years old, he played the character of an old man. His acting was much appreciated and as a result, he was offered many films. But he was only offered the roles of older men, such as father, uncle etc. Lack of money and work made him accept the offers.

Alok Nath acted as a father in many movies in which the leading actors were either younger to him, equal to his age or almost double of his age. He played the role of Amitabh Bachchan’s father in the movie Agneepath (1992). Amitabh was 48 that time and he was just 34. Once he was offered a role for Jitendra’s father, but he rejected the proposal. He always proved himself by performing different characters in various movies. He not only played positive roles, but many negative roles too in movies like Bol Radha Bol, Vinashak, Shadyantra, etc.

He worked in more than 500 films and 40 -50 TV shows during his career. Despite having the image of Sanskari Babuj, he attempted a rap song too. In the year 2013, memes regarding his Sankari Babuji character became the talk of the town. Although, he responded cheerfully to the memes.
